Nobody ever picks him

Every night when I put Kylie to bed, we lay there and talk about her day. Usually it is the latest drama in the realm of 1st grade girls. Who sat next to who at lunch and what happened at recess. Tonight she was talking about her job this week at schol and she gets to do the morning song. She promptly stood up and did the song and than said that each day she gets to pick a friend to do the song with her. She told me tomorrow she is going to pick this certain boy. It is very out of character for her so I asked her why (I am a nosy mom). She proceeded to tell me how all year he has never been picked by anyone because he gets made fun of a lot because he needs a lot of extra help with things and she doesn't think it is nice to make fun of someone because he gets answers wrong. She said he must be so sad that he never gets picked so tomorrow she is going to pick him. I was so amazed at the compassion of my 7 year old. Everyone should think like her and the world would be a better place. It is funny how kids can see things so clearly. I told her I was proud of her decision. She told me her friends will laugh but she didn't care. I hope she always has this compassion in her heart.
